The Deacon

Seven years ago, the Catholic Church celebrated the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the permanent diaconate in the Latin rite of the Church. We here at OSV joined in that celebration by bringing back into print — in an exciting new form — a venerable publication for deacons (and their wives): Deacon Digest. A year and a half later, we rebranded it The Deacon, and the rest is history.

Or perhaps I should say, history in the making. Because, with the next issue of The Deacon (January/February 2026), OSV is passing the torch to another organization, one with which I trust many of you are familiar: the National Association of Diaconate Directors, which has been serving diocesan deacon directors since 1987. In NADD, The Deacon has found its new home.

Much has changed over the last seven years, but the quality of The Deacon has endured, in large part because it has been led from the beginning of its OSV run by Deacon Dominic Cerrato. You will be pleased, therefore, to hear that Deacon Dom will remain as editor of The Deacon when NADD takes over as publisher.

In all other aspects, your subscription will remain the same — six issues per year; same subscription price; same great content. The only change we hope to see is that even more of your fellow deacons will subscribe!

It has truly been an honor to work with Deacon Dom to serve the entire diaconate community these past seven years, and I look forward to seeing the new heights to which he and NADD will take The Deacon in the years to come!
